Santana Surgery Possible, Francoeur Out. DBO not to blame this time.

"I can't watch anymore!!!"

"I can't watch anymore!!!"

As I said a few days ago, I can probably be blamed for Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran being injured and screwing up  part of the Mets’ year.  I cannot however take credit for the latest blows to an already lost Metropolitan season.  Johan Santana has discomfort in his elbow that will most likely require surgery and newly acquired Jeff Francoeur has a torn ligament in his thumb. Mets fans!  You probably thought it couldn’t get any worse didn’t you?  Well this latest news is like a straight shot to the nuts while you’re already on the ground.  I actually feel for you.  I can’t think of a time when one team went through a season with so many injuries to star players.   Surprisingly, the healthiest member of the Mets this year was Billy Wagner and his new UC ligament.   At least they did the right thing and shipped him to Boston for a pair of players to be named.   My advice to fans of the orange and blue is simple. Stop watching. Just do it. No more baseball until Spring Training 2010. Your season is over, might as well start acting like it.

**UPDATE 6:30PM** – MRI reveals Santana has bone chips in his elbow, he will undergo season ending surgery.  Yet another tough loss.

My Literary Debut on D-Bo Sports

As I was pondering what to write as my first entry to D-Bo Sports, I came across the brilliant idea to create an entry of epic sweet sports pictures. Hopefully some of these pictures will bring some happy memories.

After creation of this culmination of sports pictures I realized it is pretty bland and not exciting… so I will leave with a brilliant idea me and a peer came up with…

A reality tv show featuring the biggest messups in sports history. A few names to throw out; Maurice Clarett, John Daly, Oj Simpson, Adam “Pacman” Jones, Charles Barkley, Ron Artest, Ozzie Guillen, Pete Rose.  The premise of the show would revolve around these characters living with each other having to do menial jobs and become contributing members to society.

The next entry will have much more substance. Till then hope everyone enjoys their weekend, and don’t do anything I wouldn’t!

Gold teeth, and apparently, a gold foot..

chadjohnsonpicSo last night, while sitting around the TV having a few beers, me and a couple friends see Chad Ochocinco kicking the PAT in a pre season game against the Pats.  I will have to say that this was one of the funnier things I have watched.  This man just comes up with the most ridiculous stuff.  Just when you thought Ochocinco might not have anything else up his sleeve, he drills the extra point.  Bengals coach Marvin Lewis then let him kickoff and he blasted it all the way down to the 10 yard line.  To add onto the nonsense, Chad plans to formally change his name to “Esteban Ochocinco” LOL.  Check out the video below to get a good laugh.

Gender Ambiguity..

18-year old Caster Semenya

Very interesting story going around about South African runner Caster Semenya.  The teenager burst onto the Track and Field scene earlier this week by shattering world record times in the 800 and 1500 meter races.  Three weeks ago she set a world record time of 1 minute, 56.72 seconds at the African Junior Championships.  The controversy began after officials required her to submit to a gender test after setting these records.  The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) suspected Semenya of being a man because she had a deep voice and a strong muscular build.  Relatives and supporters close to Semenya have denied the accusations and are saying they absolutely, 100% know that she is a woman.  These tests can take weeks to finish and she will be tested by gynecologists, psychologists and a gender expert among others.  If it is determined by these parties that she is indeed a man, her gold medals will be stripped.  This seems very strange to me.  It seems as though trying to determine ones gender is so ambiguous these days and could be easily disputed.  What is going to happen if it is determined that she is a man?  I would assume that Semenya and her team will come out and show their own proof that she is a woman.  It just seems that these days, with so many different developments in gender and lifestyle choices, that it will be extremely difficult to determine what makes a true female.  Obviously Semenya is not just a regular girl in the world.  She clearly has tremendous athletic talent, and that talent and ability obviously separates her from a “normal female.”  So how can a doctor determine her gender in this way?  There doesn’t seem to be a clear benchmark anymore on what makes a female and a male.  It used to be either you have a penis or a vagina, but in today’s world, that’s obviously not good enough anymore.  It will be interesting to see how this whole situation plays out.  What are your throughts??

**UPDATE**  Usain Bolt just broke his own record in the 200 meters.  I think the IAAF should test to see if he is a man or a robot……

Drama Queen? I’m not so sure.

Sucks to be Tavaris Jackson..

Sucks to be Tavaris Jackson..

Brett Favre is a drama queen.  Brett Favre is selfish.  Brett Favre is this, Brett Favre is that.  But is he really?  I’m not so sure.  Yes, it feels as if he retired a million times in the past couple of years, but I actually think that he was trying to be sincere each time.  I truly think it has been so difficult for him to leave the game, that he has actually tried to lie himself into thinking he was retired.  The fire and passion that burns inside of him is obviously so hard to extinguish.  He has tried and tried to put it out, but he just can’t.  This past offseason he probably thought it was finally gone, but it obviously came back strong.  Favre gets villain-ized in all this, but it really isn’t his fault.  I would blame us in the media who do the reporting.  We tend to beat the story to death.  So much so, that it actually pisses fans off when they constantly hear about it.  Favre doesn’t want to piss fans off.  He doesn’t want to be seen as a villain.  This story is just another product of our media system that keeps feeding us until we are too full and get sick to our stomachs.  I have no problem with Favre wrestling with the idea of retirement and coming back.  It is so tough to just drop what you love and leave it behind, especially when you truly feel you have something left in the tank.  Favre, alongside Adrian Peterson, makes the Vikings one of the best teams in the league and a Super Bowl contender.  The Vikings will sell more tickets and the NFL will sell more jerseys because of this deal, so I have no problem with it whatsoever.  Yes, Favre goes back and forth and it drags on, but do you really blame him for not giving up what he has done so well his entire life?  I don’t blame him and I think if he thinks he has something left then it will be a good fit in Minnesota.

The Curse of The Bandits…

"Gracias for the DROP DBO!"

"Gracias for the DROP DBO!"

Every year me and a few buddies always set up our Fantasy Baseball league.  It is known as Yorktown Fantasy Legends.  I guess we are legends in our own minds, but legends none the less.  It seems that every single year my team, on paper, should roll over everyone else’s and make me happy.  It is never the case.  Currently I sit tied for third, which isn’t bad, but I have no shot to catch the guy at the top.  I always end up puttering around somewhere in the middle and I could never put my finger on why until now.  My teams are cursed.  Every year I have this group of star players who either a) don’t play to their normal standards b) get injured or c) somehow fall off the face of the earth.  In the past I’ve had Ben Sheets coming off 264 k’s and a 0.98 WHIP to throw only 155 innings the next season.  In 2005 I drafted Justin Morneau, who hit .239 with 22 homers.  You know what he did the next year?  Yeah, .321 34 and 130 sounds about right.  It’s very frustrating.  So who did I ruin this year?  Well, let’s start with my first two picks Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran.  Omar Minaya, even though you are the worst GM in baseball right now, I guess you could partially blame your crappy season on me.  I drafted your two All-Stars and my curse got them both.  Reyes is most likely out for the year with a torn hamstring and Beltran, well he’s on his way as well with a bone bruise in his knee.  If I am lucky, he might play for a week in September.  Awful, awful, awful.  And what about Big Papi, David Ortiz?  Yeah, well I drafted him as well, not even hoping for the Papi of the past, but for a modest 25 homers and 85 RBI’s.  Well after hovering around .220 with steroid allegations I dropped him.  I guess he falls under category ‘C’ , because he certainly fell off the face of the earth.  Here’s the funny part though.  Since I dropped Ortiz less than a week ago, he’s had 2 homers, a double and 4 RBI’s.  I guess the curse is slowly lifting off him as well.  Maybe I should pick him back up so the Red Sox miss out on the playoffs.  Anyway, as you can see, another Fantasy year is almost finished and once again I find myself stuck in the middle.  But as they say, there’s always next year.

Vick Signs With Eagles, PETA fires away.

070202_vick_vmed_3pwidec“PETA and millions of decent football fans around the world are disappointed that the Eagles decided to sign a guy who hung dogs from trees. He electrocuted them with jumper cables and held them under water.  You have to wonder what sort of message this sends to young fans who care about animals and don’t want them to be harmed.” – PETA spokesman Dan Shannon.

I am a “decent football fan” and that quote really grinds my gears.  Let me start off by saying I do not, in any way, shape or form, agree with what Michael Vick did to those dogs.  BUT, I will say that he served his time and, without a doubt, should be able to resume his football career.  The only message the Eagles are sending by signing Vick is simple.  They are in essence saying, no we don’t agree with what Michael did, but this is America, and in America we believe in second chances.  The Eagles feel as though Michael served his time and has become a better person because of it.  For PETA to come out and say what they said is just beating a dead horse.  It seems more like a publicity stunt to get a little more attention to their cause.  Once again, I am not condoning what Vick did, but I am saying that it is time to move forward and the fact that he is able to live his life again and play football is a good thing.  It is not like he didn’t pay a price for what he did.  What he did to those dogs will remain with him for the rest of his life.  From what we’ve seen so far, he has come out of it a better man. There is absolutely nothing wrong with someone getting out of jail and making a living for himself.  PETA, back off already. Everyone seems to want to move on but you.  Phew, just had to get that off my chest.  Let’s see how the rest of this plays out.
